BEFORE THE OIL AND GAS CONSERVATION COMMISSION OF THE STATE OF COLORADO
IN THE MATTER OF THE PROMULGATION OF FIELD RULES TO GOVERN THE SPACING AND DENSITY OF GAS WELLS IN THE GREENWOOD GAS FIELD IN BACA COUNTY, COLORADO	) ) ) )	CAUSE NO. 34 ORDER NO. 34-2

REPORT OF THE COMMISSION

This cause came on for hearing before the Commission on August 16, l955 at 10:00 a.m., 330 State Office Building, Denver, Colorado, after publication of Notice of Hearing as required by law, on the application of the Cities Service Gas Development Company, for an order from the Commission to amend Order No. 34-1 by extending the boundaries of the Greenwood Gas Field in Baca County, Colorado.

FINDINGS

The Commission finds as follows:

1.      That due notice of the time, place, and purpose of the hearing has been given in all respects as required by law.

2.      That the Commission has jurisdiction over the subject matter embraced in said Notice, and of the parties interested therein, and jurisdiction to promulgate the hereinafter prescribed order.

3.      That the Topeka-Lansing formation of the Pennsylvanian Age in the Greenwood Gas Field constitutes a common source of supply of gas underlying, in addition to the area set forth in Cause No. 34, Order No. 34-1, the following described lands in Baca County, Colorado:

Township 33 South, Range 41 West, 6th P.M.

Sections 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32 and 33

Township 34 South, Range 41 West, 6th P.M.

Sections 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33 and 34

Township 35 South, Range 41 West, 6th P.M.

Sections 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17 and 18

4.      That the Commission finds that Rule 1 of its Order No. 34-1 should be amended to provide for the location of wells to be drilled in the additional units lying immediately adjacent to the Colorado-Kansas and Colorado-Oklahoma state boundaries.

5.      That a casing program should consist of not less than Six Hundred (600) feet of surface pipe to be set, and the production string should be set not higher than the top of the Topeka-Lansing formation of the Pennsylvanian Age.

6.      That an exception should be allowed for the Moran Bros., Inc. Holt #1 well located in the Northeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter (NE//4NE/4NE/4) of Section Twenty-one (21), Township Thirty-four (34) South, Range Forty-one (41) West of the 6th P.M., Baca County, Colorado, and that said well should be the permitted gas well for the drilling and spacing unit upon which it is located.

ORDER

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS ORDERED, that the following rules and regulations shall apply hereafter to a well drilled, completed, or recompleted in the Topeka-Lansing formation of the Pennsylvanian Age in the Greenwood Gas Field, in Baca County, Colorado, as hereinabove defined in the Findings, and to those lands set forth in Cause No. 34, Order No. 34-1, in addition to other applicable rules, regulations, and orders of the Commission heretofore adopted and not in conflict herewith.

Rule 1.    The drilling and spacing units as set forth in Rule 2 of this Order shall be, and the same are hereby established for the production of gas from the Topeka-Lansing formation of the Pennsylvanian Age, common source of supply underlying the following described lands in Baca County, Colorado, which include the original Greenwood Gas Field and the additional area herein described in the Findings:

which area is known as the Greenwood Gas Field.

Rule 2. No well shall be drilled or completed in the Greenwood Gas Field, and no Notice of Intention to drill shall be approved by the Commission unless:

(a)     Such well be located on a designated drilling unit of Six Hundred Forty (640) acres of land, more or less, according to governmental survey thereof, and on which no other well is completed or approved for completion for the production of gas.

(b)     The permitted gas well shall be located within Five Hundred (500) feet of the center of each drilling and spacing unit; provided, however:

(1)  That the permitted well be drilled not less than Two Thousand One Hundred Forty (2140) feet from the north, south, and west section lines, and not less than One Thousand Two Hundred Fifty (1250) feet from the east section line in the following drilling and spacing units:

Rule 3.    That the casing program shall consist of not less than Six Hundred (600) feet of surface pipe to be set, and the production string shall be set not higher than the top of the Topeka-Lansing formation of the Pennsylvania Age.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED, that an exception shall be allowed for the Morgan Bros., Inc. Holt #1 well located in the Northeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter of the Northeast Quarter (NE/4 NE/4 NE/4) of Section Twenty-one (21), Township Thirty-four (34) South, Range Forty-one (41) West of the 6th P.M., Baca County, Colorado, and that said well shall be the permitted well for the drilling and spacing unit upon which it is located.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED, that the rules and regulations contained herein shall become effective forthwith, and henceforth the commencement of the drilling of any well or wells in the Topeka-Lansing formation of the Pennsylvanian Age, as defined herein, for the purpose of producing gas therefrom, at a location other than authorized by this Order, is hereby prohibited.

IT IS FURTHER ORDERED, that the Commission expressly reserves its right, after notice and hearing, to alter, amend, or repeal any and/or all of the above rules and regulations.
