ORDER NO. 20-3

REPORT OF THE COMMISSION

This cause came on for hearing before the Commission on December 19, 1961, at 10 a.m., in Room 132, State Services Building, Denver, Colorado, after publication of Notice of Hearing as required by law, on the application of the Shell Oil Company for an order approving enlargement of the water injection operation for the Battle Canyon Unit Area "J" Sand, to include within said Unit Area the additional lands in Weld County, Colorado, described as the W½NE¼, E½NW¼, and NW¼NW¼ of Section 27, Township 11 North, Range 56 West, 6th P.M.; and authorizing conversion of the Government #1-27 well, located in the center of the NE¼NW¼ of said Section 27, to a water injection well to be known as the United States Unit Well No. 7 WI.

FINDINGS

The Commission finds as follows:

1.      That due notice of the time, place and purpose of the hearing has been given in all respects as required by law, and that all prerequisites to the granting hereof have been performed.

2.      That the Commission has jurisdiction over the subject matter embraced in said Notice, and of the parties interested therein, and jurisdiction to promulgate the hereinafter prescribed order.

3.      That the water injection operation in the Battle Canyon Unit Area "J" Sand should be continued to completion in order to minimize waste of oil and gas in said field, and that the enlargement of said water injection operation to include within said Unit Area the W½NE¼, E½NW¼, and NW¼ NW¼ of Section 27, Township 11 North, Range 56 West, 6th P.M., Weld County, Colorado, and the conversion of the Government #1-27 well located in the center of the NE¼ NW¼ of said Section 27 to a water injection well, is essential for such purposes.

4.      That, according to geological and engineering information available, injection of water in said well will not adversely affect the correlative rights of any owner outside of said Battle Canyon Unit Area "J" Sand.

5.      That the use and operation of said well as a water injection well will increase the ultimate recovery of oil and gas from the "J" sand formation of the Battle Canyon Field and will prevent waste.
