CAUSE NO. 112

ORDER NO. 112-5

REPORT OF THE COMMISSION

This cause came on for hearing before the Commission on October 20, 1959, at 10:00 a.m. in the Game Room of the Albany Hotel, Denver, Colorado, after publication of Notice of Hearing as required by law, on the application of the Southern Union Gas Company for an order granting permission and authority to dually complete its Ute No. 6 well located 990 feet north of the south line and 1650 feet east of the west line of Section 16, Township 32 North, Range 11 West, N.M.P.M., La Plata County, Colorado, so as to produce gas from the Dakota and Mesaverde formations, with no commingling of gas from the two formations.

FINDINGS

The Commission finds as follows:

1.      That due notice of the time, place and purpose of the hearing has been given in all respects as required by law.

2.      That the Commission has jurisdiction over the subject matter embraced in said Notice, and of the parties interested therein, and jurisdiction to promulgate the hereinafter prescribed order.

3.      That Applicant is the owner of oil and gas leases which cover, among other lands, Section 16, Township 32 North, Range 11 West, N.M.P.M., La Plata County, Colorado; and that it has drilled its Ute No. 6 well, located 990 feet north of the south line and 1650 feet east of the west line of said Section 16; and that said well is capable of producing from the Mesaverde and Dakota formations.

4.      That Applicant proposes to produce gas in its Ute No. 6 well from the Dakota formation at depths of from 7408 to 7464 feet, from 7476 to 7490 feet, and from 7513 to 7516 feet, through 2" tubing with Model D Baker packer set at 5240 feet.  Applicant also proposes to produce natural gas from the Mesaverde formation at depths of from 4929 to 4970 feet and from 5030 to 5205 feet, through 1" tubing landed at 5078 feet; and that prior to delivery of gas from the well into the gathering pipeline, there will be no commingling of gas from the two formations referred to, and that the well will be operated at all times so as to prevent any flow of Mesaverde gas into the Dakota formation, and vice versa.

5.      That all available geological and engineering data concerning the above well indicate that said well can be dually completed as set forth in Finding 4 above, and that said dual completion should be granted.

6.      That the granting of Applicant's request, and the completion and production of said well in the manner hereinabove described will not result in waste, and that no damage will result to either formation because of such dual zone completion.
